‘A Gradient’
by Kenny Gay & Jonathon Kingsbury

Kenny and I were tasked with the concept of converting an old firepit globe built, for Bonnaroo several years ago, into something new and current.

What we came up with was a gradient of color, light, size, and height. It started with the idea of using mirror. I had always wanted to work with mirror and the concept of it reflecting the beautiful Tennessee sunsets on the farm. I wanted something that would work during the day but have a transformation at night. That’s when we found the colored plexi, that would glow with a light inside, but look reflective during the day.

Inspired by the work of James Turrell, and his use of large spaces to light breath. The result is what we decided to call “A Gradient”, a mixture of colored plexi glass, mirror, and LED programmed lights.
